She’s Got That Northern Soul is a contemporary piano quintet inspired by the energy, rhythm, and character of the Northern Soul movement rooted in Wigan and the North West of England. Combining driving rhythmic figures with lyrical melodic writing, the work reflects both the exhilaration and emotional warmth associated with northern identity and community spirit.
Drawing influence from the atmosphere of iconic Northern Soul dance halls and the resilience and humour of northern culture, the piece balances cinematic textures with moments of intimacy and momentum. Written by Lancashire soprano and composer Lucy Farrimond, the quintet blends classical chamber writing with subtle stylistic nods to soul-inspired grooves and dance rhythms, creating a vibrant and distinctive concert work.
