Roots
'Roots' a piano quintet written for Farrimond’s debut album 'Where The Heart Roams' (2026), forms the musical and conceptual foundation of the project. Centred on themes of belonging and home, the work is built around a sustained tonal anchor, with textures that gather and recede while remaining grounded. Pastoral sonorities and spacious writing are complemented by subtle electronic elements—including birdsong recorded in Standish, Wigan—evoking landscape and memory. A distant cornet motif offers a gentle nod to northern brass band traditions, reflecting the composer’s musical roots.
