Haydn’s Creation at the Tung Auditorium 🌍

On Saturday 16th May, I had the pleasure of performing as soprano soloist (Gabriel/Eve) in The Creation with the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra as part of the orchestra’s 75th anniversary celebrations!

The performance took place in the stunning The Tung Auditorium at the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre under the baton of Robin Wallington. I was joined by fellow soloists Anthony Flaum (Archangel Uriel) and Alistair Ollerenshaw (Raphael / Adam), with the choir formed from a collaboration between the University of Liverpool Choir, Oriel Singers and a visiting choir from Vanderbilt University.

This was my first time singing in the Tung Auditorium and I absolutely loved it. The hall is glorious, with wonderfully warm acoustics that allow both orchestra and voices to bloom naturally. Combined with a full and incredibly appreciative audience, it made for a very special evening.

I’ve now sung The Creation four times in total - twice as a young choir member, dreaming one day of singing the soprano solos, and now twice as a soloist. My first time performing the role was with the All Saints Chorus and orchestra at St John's Smith Square a couple of years ago, and returning to this extraordinary work again reminded me just how much I love it.

It remains one of my favourite oratorios to perform: challenging, uplifting, and overflowing with joy!

A lovely review of the performance has already been published by Arts City Liverpool.
